ART// melted crayon art

So I finally gave in and joined the melted crayon art bandwagon. Here are some pictures of my project:

This is my favorite part of the whole thing; the wax melts and splatters everywhere when you move the hair-dyer back and forth. Super cool effects!

I spray painted my canvas gold before I started instead of the typical white. I encourage you to try this as home! It's super fun and easy.

ART// drawing exam

I took a beginner's drawing class this semester at school (the only art class available, ugh) and for my final I had to draw this rose.
Other than portraits, I hate drawing realistic things. Pieces that look like photographs just have no soul to me. You might as well just take a picture with a camera of something if you just plan on drawing it realistically. Don't get me wrong though, if you can do it that is a really cool skill. But I think a real artist would put his or her own flair on their every piece and make it look as unique as possible. So with that being said, my main point is that although I liked my finished piece, drawing it was not enjoyable to be at all. I wanted to do it my way and for a grade that was just something I couldn't do.
That's college for you, kids.

ART// portrait

Every once and awhile my mother will recruit me to draw a portrait for someone as a gift. I took lessons when I was in seventh and eight grade from a Korean man and he was amazing. I learned so much about drawing the human face and learning techniques I never would have thought of. It's been about 6 or 7 years since I took those lessons but they are stuck with me!

I did this portrait of my nephew for my sister-in-law as her Christmas present. She loved it! I wanted to show the process of how it was done: outlining, facial features, and filling in.
